The history of video games - In soud!
Ever since the 80s, music has been a mainstay of video games. From Legends of Zelda, Super Mario, Street Fighter, and Donkey Kong to Battlefield, Hitman, and Final Fantasy, video games have had their very own, unique soundtracks, to help enhance the storyline of the game and the players' ability to empathize with the characters and universe.
The music of the many games is wide in genre. Most people know the analog 8bit sound, associated with games like Tetris and Super Mario - when Mario and Luigi jump from mushroom to mushroom, towards the princess. Since then, the soundtracks have evolved into grandiose and epic symphonies that draw the player entirely into the virtual universe.
With High Score! Aarhus Jazz Orchestra presents the amazing soundtracks from the 80s and all the way up until today, played by one of the best big bands of Denmark. Audiences can experience everything from magnificent wind compositions to well known melodies from the childhood bedrooms, all the while surrounding the stage with visuals from the selected video games.
The concert will be hosted by Lars Konzack, computer game researcher at the IT University of Copenhagen, who will talk about the games and developments on the gaming scene from then until now in close collaboration with the 27-year-old conductor and arranger John Riddell, who with his own great love of computer games, takes the audience into the virtual world for an evening.
