GELLERUP SESSIONS NO. 1 // BITOI

1/5/2025

Concert: 18:00 - 22:00 // Admission: 50 DKK // 25 DKK

Gellerup Sessions is a series of concert formats where you get up close to the performing artist, bridging the gap between stage and audience. The concept looks like this:

First, a communal dinner at Gellerup Højskole – with both the band and the audience. Conversations about music, the weather, or something entirely different.

After the meal, a Q&A with the artist. About their music, who they are, and how their music comes to life. A behind-the-scenes look at the creative process.

Finally, a concert with the artist – in a simple and fairly low-key setup at a changing venue in Gellerup. Semi-unplugged, you might call it.

Expect some incredibly intimate and present evenings, created in collaboration with Gellerup Højskole.

BITOI

Following rave reviews of their debut performance at the Intonal Festival, BITOI (Bass Is The Original Instrument) is steadily capturing the curiosity of audiences across the globe.

The project leans on tradition while exploring the outskirts of the human capabilities of musicians and composers. They merge the timeless instrument of the voice with the relatively new electric bass. BITOI’s lyrics are based on phonetic pronunciations of bird sounds. Bird whistles, vocal cord drumming, and wind sounds are interwoven into BITOI’s rich soundscape.

The band crafts a transformative experience at their performances, guiding the audience on a captivating musical voyage. This fosters a collective emotional bond between all attendees and the band. Their emotional connection comes to life through their songs, resonating with the audience and creating a shared emotional experience among everyone present.

In 2024, the group was fortunate to embark on several European tours, participating in esteemed events such as the Roskilde Festival, Clandestino, Copenhagen Jazz, and Pasaggi Sonori, among others. Additionally, they took a significant step by traveling to Japan for their first tour there, which included a collaboration with Okinawan musician Aragaki Mutsumi.

BITOI has just recorded their debut album an album set to be released in spring 2025.
