HUUN HUUR TU
Hailing from the high pastures of the Altai Mountains in south central Siberia, the musicians behind Huun Huur Tu have spent decades honing the overtone singing, instrumental approaches, and vibrant songs of their home.
Steeped in Tuvan folklore, the ensemble wears traditional garb and accompanies themselves on string and percussion instruments, playing galloping rhythms that evoke the vast south Siberian steppe. Their tightly structured pieces often imitate natural sounds, so that a song can be a literal representation of a Tuvan landscape.
Using traditional instruments and drawing subtly on 20th-century composers, Huun Huur Tu transform ancient songs into complex acoustic compositions.
EN:1
EN:1 (One to one) is the name of the duo that Thomas Birch (Guitar) and Carina Juul (Key harp) formed in 2017. After many years of experience as instrumentalists in various folk music traditions, Nordic music drew, and the duo was born with the aim to explore the possibilities of the key harp in a modern musical context.
The duo has played concerts and festivals all over the country and has participated in international conferences on folk music as a representative of Denmark. The repertoire covers traditional music from Sweden, folk dance melodies from France and own works as interpretations of the Nordic musical tradition.
