Human Being Human + Jimi Tenor & Kaptajn Ørentvist ☉ turkis
Join in from July 10th to July 13th when turkis offers a summerly jazz program on the occasion of Aarhus Jazz Festival. Check out the complete program here.
On the 13th of July, you can enjoy a double concert with Human Being Human and Jimi Tenor & Kaptajn Ørentvist.
Human Being Human
Human Being Human has a lot to offer as a trio. The cornerstone is the connection between three musicians from very different backgrounds. Bass-player Torben Bjørnskov with deep roots in the Nordic melodic universe, but also in the world of jazz, pianist Esben Tjalve with years of experience from the music scene of London, and drummer Frederik Bülow with strong roots in the wave of jazz-tronica and odd-meter grounded music.
The compositional basis of the trio is equal parts improvisation, grooves, and moods, and their music takes you from cinematic landscapes to the intense cacophony of the city. The sources of inspiration range from Bach's counterpoint to the swampy soul-jazz of the 70s and the sound of Scandinavia's melodic and melancholic tone.
At the moment, Human Being Human is releasing their first studio album Naked Trees and they are more than ready to introduce turkis to their new tones during this summer’s jazz festival in Aarhus.
Line-up
Torben Bjørnskov - acoustic bass, electronics
Esben Tjalve - piano
Frederik Bülow - drums
Jimi Tenor & Kaptajn Ørentvist
Finnish legend and pioneer; the composer and musician Jimi Tenor visits Denmark in a new constellation with Captain Ørentvist consisting of Jørgen Teller, Erik Kimestad, Kristian Tangvik and P. O. Jørgens. The quintet started with 4 days of sessions in the Ninth World studios and will now release their first work together.
Jimi Tenor is a musical chameleon who effortlessly moves from cosmic jazz, highlife, and afrobeat to funky dub, lounge-house , and techno. He is hyper-productive and regularly releases records at several companies, including the legendary Warp Records, Ubiquity Records, Strut Records, and most recently Philophon.
Over the past few years, he has collaborated with the legendary Fela Kuti drummer, Tony Allen, but in spring he returned to his own Finnish label Puu with the album, Deep Sound Learning (1993 - 2000), which is a collection of - until now - unreleased but completely matchless material.
