Once again, det turkise telt presents our Roots&Hybrid Festival as part of SPOT and like last year, the festival is held in a homely setting at the now functioning musical meeting point turkis. Here we present a two-day line-up with samples from the turquoise music history as well as a peak of new and groundbreaking movements.
From 6 - 7 May, you can experience both short showcase formats and longer concerts, when we unfold a living catalog of musical traditions and experiments through 13 Danish and international acts.
Tickets and Access
All SPOT guests have access to the Roots&Hybird Festival at turkis. In addition, it is possible to buy access through day passes. These are sold in limited numbers at the door.
Day pass holders access the venue on the same terms as SPOT guests, meaning that they will wait in the same line as SPOT guests, should the venue reach full capacity.
A day pass to Roots&Hybrid costs 120 DKK on both 6 and 7 May. Day passes can be purchased at the door.

FRIDAY 6. MAY
VÍÍK

The Scandinavian sextet VÍÍK consists of musicians from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. The group explores the hybrids of folk music in the musical field between mesmerizing Nordic melodies, the grooves of rock, and the raw elegance of jazz. Led by the Norwegian singer Elisabeth Vik, the sextet invites you into their enchanting universe of mysterious medieval ballads and musical adventures.
Maria Mazzotta

Maria Mazzotta is one of the most expressive singers of Southern Italy. With a big personality and a grandiose expression, she unfolds Italian folk music through intense love songs. With her whole body, Mazzotta conveys everything from great and tender romance to possessive and desperate jealousy, while infecting her audience with great emotions to the sound of a passionate accordion.

Sylfide

With her electro-acoustic universe and her crystal clear vocal, Sylfide unites Nordic folk music with modern songwriting. She delivers melodies with references to both traditional folk songs and modern pop music, and lyrics that address our common cultural heritage through strong themes such as femininity and climate anxiety - all with grounding in the past and with a view to the future.
Ba Balance

Ba Balance is a new, award-nominated duo consisting of guitarist Preben Carlsen and percussionist Sal Dibba. The group, which has previously been described as "An African White Stripes", is known for mixing dirty desert rock with rhythms from Central and West Africa and for spicing up their groovy sound with genres such as psychedelic rock and blues.

Guiding Star Orchestra

Guiding Star Orchestra is a collective of musicians from the dub, jazz, roots, and reggae scenes in Denmark. The large analog sound system orchestra is based on a common passion for instrumental roots and reggae music which the group infuses with deep, meditative, and at the same time extroverted vibrations. In this way, the collective delivers musical mindfulness that embraces both body and soul.
Shkoon

The German-Syrian band Shkoon consists of Ameen and Thorben who met in Hamburg after Ameen left his home in Syria during the war. The two connected through music and they now play major festival stages all over the world. With a mix of Arabic lyrics, Syrian folklore, electronic downbeat, and deep house, the music of Shkoon bears a message of cultural and musical diversity.

Luna Ersahin & Rezwan Taha

Luna Ersahin & Rezwan Taha is a brand new duo of two powerful singers, also known for projects such as AySay and Rest in Beats. The women share both their Kurdish background and strong charisma, and together they elegantly introduce new facets of the evocative Kurdish folk music with beautiful vocal harmonies, soulful melodies, and groovy roots tones.
Nevesta's Voice

Nevesta’s Voice is a Danish trio driven by a curiosity for the roots and people of Europe, and the three women interpret folk songs from all over the continent with a unique presence. Through harp, accordion, vocals, and small humorous tales of the past and present, Johanne Baadsgaard Lange, Elisabeth Klein, and Helene Tungelund create a beautiful and honest connection between us and those who once were.
Bahima

The young Copenhagen band Bahima is a breath of fresh air on the Danish music scene, as they place themselves with one leg in the roots genre and the other in pop music. Western and Eastern musical elements merge into an organic cocktail of quirky beats, surprising harmonies, and gripping melodies. They create an atmospheric universe with evocative tableaux, floating vocals, and a personal and poetic expression through adventurous lyrics in Danish.
A Fo!

It is a strong female energy that meets the spotlight, as A Fo! – All-Female Orchestra takes the stage and combines soulful West-African singing tradition with improvisation, throat singing, and irresistible dance grooves. A Fo! takes us from Mali to Estonia and from Denmark to Finland, bypassing all geographical and cultural borders with their transcending love for music from across the globe.
Les Filles de Illighadad

The band Les Filles de Illighadad was formed in a small village in the Sahara desert. Following the choir traditions of the region and the sound of a dusty desert guitar, the four Nigerien musicians created a new direction for the folk music of the nomadic Tuareg people. With their mesmerizing prayer-like expression, the group brings you into a musical trance and lets the sound of Illighadad resonate far beyond the Sahara desert.

Total Hip Replacement

In 2021, Total Hip Replacement formed a nine-man band with Ghanaian highlife and gospel musicians who then wrote and recorded an album in Ghana. In a mix of highlife, reggae, traditional rhythms, and global pop, the group creates a new sound and a common language between both the musicians and the audience. In this way, they describe universal themes across diversity with a warm, uplifting expression.
Urban Connection: SPOT-afterpary

Urban Connection is a creative DJ collective that has emerged in response to a discriminatory nightlife and a need for a broader representation of music genres such as afrobeats, hip hop, dancehall. They work to create events that are free of discrimination and to gather Aarhus around the sound of urban music. They look forward to creating a beautiful evening full of great energy!
