DZAMBO AGUSEVI ORCHESTRA

From humble beginnings in the small Macedonian town of Strumica to captivating audiences worldwide, the Džambo Aguševi Orchestra has soared to the top of the international music scene.

Trumpeter Džambo Agušev, affectionately called "The Funky Tiger," is one of Macedonia's most celebrated musicians since the late Esma Redžepova. At 37, this bandleader and virtuoso continues to elevate his reputation as a master of Balkan music.

Starting his journey at 11 as part of his uncle's orchestra, Džambo’s talent quickly gained attention. While rooted in Balkan brass traditions, he drew inspiration from both Western and Eastern genres like jazz, funk, soul, film scores, and classical music. This diversity allowed him to craft a unique playing style that merges his Romani heritage with a modern musical vision.

As an adult, Džambo formed the Džambo Aguševi Orchestra, becoming renowned for their electrifying performances at weddings across the region. His extraordinary skill led to victories at prestigious festivals like the Kumanovo and Pehčevo Trumpet Festivals. In 2011, Džambo made history by winning first prize at Guča's legendary "Dragačevski Sabor," the world’s premier brass band competition.
