🎉 15th ANNIVERSARY OF DET TURKISE TELT

– Since its humble beginnings in 2010 as a small tent during Aarhus Festival Week, det turkise telt has grown into a cultural powerhouse, fostering projects that connect people through music. Today, we celebrate all the events, relationships, and movements that have blossomed from det turkise telt, always powered by our dedicated volunteer group, “den turkise familie”.

🎉 TURKIS AS A REGIONAL VENUE

– This recognition highlights our work presenting Roots&Hybrid music and creating unique, holistic experiences where people connect through music. We’re excited to celebrate this day with all the communities that help make turkis a thriving house and meeting place, where new connections and communities can flourish.

GAMZE & ARZU’S FOODSTALL

No party without a feast! And here comes one, with hearts in the right place. Gamze and Arzu are our local kitchen legends, whose cooking sends most of the profits to charity. For our triple celebration, they will set up a food stall with the following menu of Turkish specialties – everything is homemade:

<3 Börek platter with feta
<3 Spinach börek
<3 Red lentil köfte
<3 Rose-shaped pastries (Poğaça) with cheese
<3 Wineleaf Dolmos
<3 Baklava
<3 Tahini cookies

Gamze and Arzu’s food will be available from 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM, and the prices are very affordable. You can create your own favorite plate, and do it again and again... and again. All profit goes to charity, with a special focus on animal welfare, hospital clowns, civilians in Gaza, and children in need.

TEA-WIZARD ATALAY

Atalay was born and raised in the Rize province, located in the northeastern part of Turkey along the Black Sea coast. Rize and its surrounding areas are famous for tea production, and the region is characterized by its steep tea fields. Atalay's family also grows tea, which gives him a special connection to tea and the taste of high-quality tea.

Over time, we've served countless gigaliters of tea, passed between turquoise volunteer hands to thirsty tea-loving guests! That’s why we are especially excited that tea expert Atalay is contributing to this statistic by serving Turkish tea in abundance for free at our triple celebration.

RIGÓ CHOIR

We would like to invite you to a workshop on polyphonic folk singing from Portugal. We follow the oral tradition of folklore and teach all material by ear. Everyone is welcome to join, no former experience with music is needed.

RIGÓ is an Aarhus-based choir working with vocal polyphonic heritage. RIGÓ is also a project with a focus on disseminating folklore and diversity in music through workshops, for example singing circles or a course on traditional percussion styles to accompany singing.

The choir and project is led by Naja Holst Nymand and Dorottya Máté.

HALK & HALAY

When Hakan, Fatih, Serkan, and Serdal join forces, as they often do for diaspora concerts and, most of all, for weddings, they bring halay music to life with a dynamic and energetic performance. Halay refers to a variety of traditional chain dances, with roots in many different ethnicities in Turkey. With Halay’s chain reaction of strong rhythms and captivating, hypnotic repetitions of dance steps, it has an effect that can get even the most shy to dance for hours on end. It has been a tradition to dance Halay under the turquoise tent over the years, forming kilometer-long chains. Join us in a tribute to the Halay dance at our 15th anniversary celebration.

ROOTS & HYBRID / MAMMA JES - FRONTSESSION

Get ready to be moved and to move with MAMMA JES!
An 8-piece ensemble that blends musical roots from around the world.
With the sound of a horn trio, violin, drums, percussion, bass, keys, synth, and powerful vocal arrangements, MAMMA JES takes the audience on a journey through global traditions and rhythms, reimagined through both personal interpretations and original compositions. The band's genre spans widely across the globe, from Balkan and Nordic folk to flamenco and afrobeat, inviting the listener into an eclectic and energetic sound universe.

AMMAR 808

Sofyann Ben Youssef, also known as Ammar808, is the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed albums Maghreb United and Global Control / Invisible Invasion, not to mention the earlier project Bargou08. Before settling in Denmark, he embarked on a remarkable journey that made him a godfather of the Tunisian alternative and electronic music scene.

Raised as a music researcher in the halls of the Tunis Conservatory, Sofyann specialized in Arabic and Indian music. As a passionate listener, he strives to find bridges between Eastern and Western music. This thirst for unheard musical fusions led him to settle in Vienna and later Brussels, where he met Anana, vocalist and guitarist of the Tuareg band Kel Assouf. Sofyann produced their albums and joined the live band, adding his subharmonic Moog Bass to the Desert Blues cocktail.

He now runs his own flagship studio in Kjellerup, Denmark, where he works as a composer, producer, sound engineer, and music production teacher.

MIRO'S FACE PAINTING

My name is Miro Bruna, born and raised in Slovakia, now living in South Djursland, and a frequent guest at Turkis. I love music, dance, colors... For the anniversary celebration, I’ll bring my face paints and would love to adorn you with beautiful patterns, in turquoise tones or any other colors of your choice. I paint on hands, arms, and faces...

RADIO EVA

Radio Eva is a fantastic platform that creates space for voices and stories that might otherwise go unheard. It’s characterized by its warmth, presence, and ability to bring people together through conversation, music, and great stories. It’s a place where creativity and passion shine through, and where listeners can always find something that inspires them or makes them think. Radio Eva has something special – an ability to create community, even when you’re listening alone.

ABDULGANI & MARIA’S CRASH COURSE IN TURKISH

Abdulgani has a huge teaching heart and was one of the first with a non-Danish ethnic background to work in the Danish educational system. For many years, he has taught the Turkish language as well as a wide range of other subjects. For our anniversary, he will offer a crash course in Turkish (and possibly Arabic), so we can all learn a few phrases to use at turkis, especially at den turkise bar... Welcome / hoş geldiniz.

Maria gives a super-short introduction to Arabic languages, their origin, spread, and structure. Together, we'll also learn some greetings and how to order coffee and tea at the bar. Yallah!
Maria teaches Arabic at AOF Evening School in Aarhus.
