Would you like to learn a new instrument while developing your rhythmic skills and musicality?

Be inspired by one of the most ancient instruments, learn the most important techniques of the modern frame drum. We will start from the very basics and gradually progress, working through a system with exercises developed to build up inner pulse, create confidence and ability for group interplay.

Who is this workshop for?

Anyone interested in developing rhythmic skills and/or learn percussion and frame drums, either you are already playing a melodic instrument or percussion instrument at any level, or who haven’t yet learned any instrument at all. Experienced percussionists or drummers looking to learn the basic techniques of modern frame drumming are also welcome.

THE WORKSHOP CONTAINS:

- Introduction to the modern Lap-Style (sitting) position for frame drums
- Introduction to rhythmical vocalisations based on Indian Rhythmic Languages (Konnakol & Solkattu)
- Traditional Middle Eastern, Mediterranean & Contemporary Rhythms
- Ornamentation and Variation possibilities on Frame Drums (basics)
- Introduction to the upright playing position
- Introduction to advanced techniques on Lap-Style
- Breathing & Rhythm
- Group Playing (start creating your own rhythmic compositions)
- Historical background of Frame Drums

REGISTRATION

Payment: It costs DKK 300 per month

There is a monthly commitment, but you can unsubscribe after a month if you feel the workshop is not for you. For DKK 15 extra, you can borrow an instrument (and take it home) during the month you pay for. This is limited to max. 8 Frame Drums.

ABOUT PEDRO CARAPINHA

Born in Portugal, based in Aarhus, he is a musician, percussionist who has been performing and exploring world percussion for over a decade. He was introduced to the world of Frame drums in 2015 by Baltazar Molina, having expanded his music studies through intensive workshops at Labyrinth Workshop (Crete) and Tamburi Mundi (Freiburg). He currently studies Frame Drums with the acclaimed master percussionist Zohar Fresco, and Brazilian Pandeiro and Music Production with the brilliant and innovative Túlio Araújo. Pedro is a member and performer of Lusus Teater, percussionist of Balkan Transit, having collaborations with other musicians.
