SHASHANK & CONSTANTINOPLE
The concert featuring Shashank & Constantinople led by Shashank Subramanyam and Kiya Tabassian explores the rich musical traditions and cultures of India and Persia. Shashank, a renowned flutist from India, has performed the world over during his career of four decades. This exceptional ensemble of four virtuoso musicians, internationally acclaimed for their talent, plays acoustic music in its purest form, blending the musical heritage of India and ancient Persia. At times, their sounds intertwine, much like two languages with different dialects.
The audience will be treated to an immersive experience of live music, improvisation, and a variety of traditional instruments, including the Indian mridangam by Parupalli Phalgun and the Persian goblet drum, the tombak by Hamin Honari.

GABRIEL SVASTHA
Gabriel Svastha is one of few Tabla players of the West who has immersed himself deeply into classical and semi-classical tabla playing.
From his early years, Gabriel exhibited a natural talent for music. Coming from a musical background of both parents being professional musicians, he was immersed in music from the start; particularly under the influence of his mother, Opera singer Dorthe Rose Svastha. His father, Michael Kramer, was a Violinist for the Royal Danish Orchestra.
At the age of 7, Gabriel began learning tabla at International Sahaja Public School in North India, under the guidance of Sir Ashish B. Khurpe. Subsequently, he delved deeper into tabla playing, receiving instruction from Abhijit Banerjee of Farrukhabad Gharana, Imran Khan, grandson of the late Ustad Faiyaz Khan of Delhi Gharana and is currently under the guidance of Shri Praveen Karkare of Farrukhabad, Delhi and Ajrada Gharana.
The video is from a performance with Swaradhana Sitar Orchestra in Sahyog Mandir, Thane.
