AySay ☉ turkis

AySay is a Danish-Kurdish trio from Aarhus led by vocalist Luna Bülow Ersahin on saz and pandeiro. Ersahin grew up with a Danish mother and a Kurdish father from Turkey, and her voice, therefore, rests in a story about the wholeness of the two halves - a narrative shared by thousands of people today. This is also why the frontwoman seeks to create new, common narratives about being human through her music.

It is this message that AySay mediates when saz and darbuka meet electronic productions, while eastern tones sung in Danish turn into Turkish. With Aske Døssing Bendixen on percussion and Carl West Hosbond on guitar, the trio's music seeks to challenge and find new harmonies, where boundaries are broken down in a present and open way.

It is a big year for the trio who for many years contributed to shaping the turquoise music history through det turkise telts festivals. This year, AySay is playing on Roskilde Festival's Rising Stage, after they released their beautiful debut album Su Akar in 2021 (‘water flows’ in Turkish). A record GAFFA called "unforgettable".

Support: Front Session, The Roots&Hybrid Team

Two years ago, the music school Frontsession set up a Roots&Hybrid class after several years’ fascination with the live scene around det turkise telt. The Roots&Hybrid team plays music wherein ethnic elements meet modern experimental sounds – e.g., tones with roots from the Middle East, North Africa, India, and South America. These musical roots are interpreted and wrapped in modern wrapping for you to enjoy. The Roots&Hybrid team also plays their own compositions.
