KAREN JUHL

Karen Juhl, a Danish experimental star, blends influences from Laurie Anderson, Solange, and M.I.A. and crafts visionary art pop. Her debut masterpiece, "Mother Tongue," has garnered acclaim from BBC6, Metal Mag, and Groove Mag. Witness the fusion of club culture and chamber music in her live shows, where rhythmic fragments meld with MIDI harp improvisations, creating a mesmerising performance.

Most recently, she released her debut album and book, "Mother Tongue." The album is a sonic hybrid of R&B, rap, experimental composition, and folklore, taking the listener on a poetic, dissonant journey. The book, created in collaboration with graphic designer Paw Poulsen, combines the album's lyrics with digital collages made up of internet images and handwritten notes. Through sound, text, and images, childhood scenes and internet spaces are connected, creating a fragmented yet meditative reflection on vulnerability in a hyper-globalized world.

In live performances, Juhl blends club culture with chamber music. Two musicians face each other on stage, creating moments of both intensity and deep attention together. Beat fragments meld with MIDI harp improvisations in a complex and moving performance, most recently performed at The Yard Theatre in London. Additionally, she created the choir performance piece "PARADE" at Glyptoteket in the spring.
