Young Poets – Co-creation between youth through literature and music
What happens when the writings of challenged young people become the foundation for other young people’s songwriting? The project Young Poets explores exactly that, with a grand release concert and book launch on April 24 at turkis!
On this evening, students from MGK-Ø (the pre-conservatory music education) will perform 9 musical interpretations based on original texts written by students from Alléskolen. The texts will be read aloud by poetry slammer Pippaluk Kevser.
This close and unique collaboration between Alléskolen and the MGK students from Aarhus Music School won’t be forgotten. The 9 songs will be released on major streaming platforms, and Alléskolen is publishing a book titled Young Poets featuring all the student texts. For the first time this year, the book also includes illustrations made by students from the Visual Art and Media School in Aarhus.
None of the young people know each other, and this evening will be the very first time they share the same space and experience a co-creative meeting across youth communities and forms of expression.
The project is a collaboration between Aarhus Music School and Alléskolen, in close partnership with Dokk1, Aarhus Visual Art and Media School, and turkis.

ABOUT THE PROJECT “YOUNG POETS”
Alléskolen is a school under the Department of Employment, aimed at young people with various challenges and difficult school backgrounds. In the Young Poets project, the students have received professional writing guidance. They have met with Aarhus-based author and poet Mads Mygind, as well as library facilitators Jesper Kirkegaard, Sara Bindeballe, and Martine Brumsbjerg. Over several days, the students wrote personal texts about faith, hope, life, discouragement, and moments of great joy.
Through poems, memoirs, and short prose, the students have shared deeply personal experiences and reflections in written form.
All texts were then sent to Aarhus Music School, where MGK students selected 9 texts to inspire new lyrics and original musical works. The pieces are grounded in the themes and emotional universes expressed by the Alléskolen students.
The MGK students approached the task with great care and dedication. The result is 9 strong, personal musical pieces – created through heartfelt interpretation of the original, deeply personal texts, now shaped into new artistic expressions.
