SAMBA TOURÉ

One of Africa’s finest guitarists and most affecting vocalists, Samba Touré is a Malian legend who has collaborated with Ali Farka Touré & Toumani Diabate. Like most Malian songs, Samba’s lyrics convey moral messages as well as introducing us to different elements of Malian culture, such as the importance of family.

When Samba moved to the Malian capital, Bamako, he fell in love with the music of Ali Farka Touré, a true original who was transposing the traditional music of his native north Mali and single-handedly bringing the style known as desert blues to an international audience. Samba was entranced by this master from Niafunké and began to play the guitar in the same style, adapting his playing from traditional string instruments on to an electric guitar.

DJ SPINCYCLE

Ankur Malhotra, also known as DJ SpinCycle explores and connects with musical traditions from around the world. Over two decades, he has excavated esoteric sounds from obscure vinyls from around the world, which he presents through reworked field recordings and obscure sounds that are reinterpreted for the dance floor. Equipped with two turntables, a mixer and stacks of vinyls, he creates layer upon layer experiences of dubbed, clubbed and psychedelic soundscapes.
