DET YDERSTE HAV
Det Yderste Hav is originally a trio that bases their music on the traditional Sønderhoning from Fanø. It is the only place in the country where dance music is preserved as a living tradition, passed down through generations.
"Here, local folk art is brought into the new century using some attentive avant-garde approaches. During the performance, children roll around on the floor while several adults in the audience shed a tear. We are in the heart of Sønderho, witnessing the revival of a centuries-old folk culture that has found new expression and fresh legs to stand on." - Weekendavisen
The band has now returned to the origins of the music in dance, celebration, and community. They have expanded to a septet and added visuals, performance, and dance instruction with young instructors and dancers from Sønderho, who have grown up with the genre and resonate with the growing young audience joining in these years.
NILS ØKLAND & SIGBJØRN APELAND
The Norwegian violinist Nils Økland and harmonium player Sigbjørn Apeland have collaborated for 30 years, extensively exploring the intersection of Norwegian traditional music and improvisation. Their music primarily originates from or is related to the region in Western Norway known as Haugalandet, which encompasses Nord-Rogaland and Sunnhordland. The overall mood is melancholic and reflective, as the melodies are mostly drawn from the serious folk song tradition rather than the region’s dance music.
Nils Økland is internationally renowned for his innovative, leisurely playing style. Both as a performer and composer, he has bridged the gap between folk music, art music, and improvisational music.
Sigbjørn Apeland is a musician and scholar, known from numerous recordings and for his work at the intersection of folk music, church music, and improvisational music.
