BILAL IRSHED & LARS FIIL
Both musicians have made a strong mark on the Danish and international music scenes over the years. Bilal Irshed, through his work with the Bilal Irshed Trio, The Fifth String Ensemble, and The Middle East Peace Ensemble, has established himself as an original interpreter of Middle Eastern music. Lars Fiil, through his releases and concerts with Frit Fald, Fiil Free, and I Think You’re Awesome, has created a jazz language with a distinctly Nordic tone.
The meeting between Middle Eastern music and Nordic jazz is at the heart of their new album Connections, which features original compositions, an Arabic pop song, and a Danish hymn. The album has quickly reached a large audience and has been played on both DR P2 and P8 Jazz.
"Their shared understanding of the fine melody is the album's great gift. They meet each other openly and without prejudice, creating music that reflects both of their origins." - Niels Overgaard, Jazznyt
YAMM ENSEMBLE
The ensemble includes Syrian musicians who studied together previously at The Higher Institute of Music in Damascus and used to be members of the Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic music. The Ensemble plays different styles of music range between Syrian classical, traditional, and folk music.
Maher Mahmoud -composer and oud player- leads the ensemble. In 2015 He started reassembling the group in cooperation with the known Danish composer and saxophonist Morten Carlsen in Denmark, where they met the first time after few years of separation. Beside playing in Denmark, they have been touring in Europe and UK with Damon Albarn, Brian Eno, The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians and The Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra.
