ÆT ☉ turkis
Enjoy a calm spring Sunday at turkis, when the quartet ÆT weaves both history and music together and lets the Nordic and Middle Eastern curls meet.
The Danish word ‘æt’ refers to the group of people from whom we all take our roots. It is also this reference that forms the base of the newly founded quartet ÆT when they merge Nordic Folk-melodies with both Turkish and Arabic harmonies and reflect the different expressions in one unified and powerful sound.
ÆT has its origin in the discovery of how much a combination of cultures can contribute to a musical expression - and vice versa. When Yossi Karutchi moved from Israel to Denmark, he experienced an urge to build bridges between different cultural and musical languages. With himself behind the frame drum, Helene Tungelund on harp and vocals, Sarvin Asa on cello, and Orhan Özgür Turan on bağlama, the quartet now explored how new and richer music could unfold.
The backgrounds of the four award-winning musicians range from Nordic folk and Classical music to Free-Jazz and Turkish Beat. Together, ÆT thus embraces a wealth of musical traditions while musically expressing a community across the contrasts. It will be a unique Sunday when ÆT pays tribute to the roots that give life to our common tribe.
